Change of Address Best Practice

Overview

Each Apple Business location has an address. When a business relocates, the partner should close a location at the old address and create a new location at the new address.

Procedure for each location:

Step 1: Determine Change Type

Address Correction (incorrect data)

• Update the location with correct mainAddress or displayPoint
• Procedure complete for this location

Business Relocation (physical move)

• Continue to Step 2

Step 2: Create New Location

1. Create location with new partnersLocationId and address.
2. Wait for state to be PUBLISHED (~15 minutes).
3. If REJECTED, check Validations: Location and fix issues.

Step 3: Close Former Location

1. Update former location with status: CLOSED and closedDate.
2. Save the etag for reference.

FAQs

Why must we add a new location and close the old location?
This ensures a good experience for customers searching Apple Maps. Customers familiar with the old location will find it on the map. They will see it is no longer open for business at that address. They can then search and find the new location.

What is the minimum to consider relocation?
Change in suite number. Even in this case, we ask you to close the location at the old address and create a new location at the new address.
